Of the hundreds of leadership models, almost all of them attempt to identify the qualities or behaviors or expectations of what defines leadership; almost none describe leadership in terms of results, which is what leaders get paid to produce. This presentation will lead participants through a metrics methodology that focuses on the results of their own leadership roles and describe these results to know when they have been a successful leader.
Purpose: To create metrics (qualitative and quantitative) that describe the unique leadership results expected of a specific leader in a specific environment to achieve specific results.
Objectives: As a result of this presentation, participants will be able to:
1. Described the 3Ms –Measure, Manage, Magnify methodology of performance metrics
2. Identify their own leadership Key Value Areas
3. Measure the proportionate value of these specific qualities of leadership
4. Describe the specific results these qualities should produce
5. Distinguish between four standards of performance for these results

Mel Schnapper, Ph.D., is the founder and past Chairman of the Metrics Specific Interest Group (SIG) of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and a leading expert in the development of metrics for measuring, managing and improving performance. His approach to metrics comes from his training in Organization Behavior (metrics are social products), Linguistics (metrics must have a common meaning amongst those who work together) and corporate project management when he was Quality Manager for Oracle Corporation, Global Project Management Service Line. His current consulting activity is in the areas of: performance management systems, career development, succession planning, leadership skills, teamwork skills and, of course, measuring the effectiveness of all of these interventions. In addition to his US-based corporate roles as Director of OD/Training for the Quaker Oats Company, Chicago Board Options Exchange his international consulting activity has been in 20 countries bringing his metrics approach to democratization, government reform and institutional capacity building.
