The Premier Association for Talent Development Professionals in the Metro DC Area
People learn best in their own language. If the cognitive effect is to be maximized, the materials used to convey concepts and information must speak the language the learners understand – their own. This session is an inside look at the way training content is used to reach people all over the world. Not everyone speaks – or thinks – in English. The global economy has created an environment where many more people can be reached than ever before.
Communicating with people – even at the ends of the earth – is now possible. It is incumbent upon organizations to leverage that communication. You’ve developed training – in English – that is successful. Now you want to take it to your subsidiaries or clients abroad. How do you make that transfer of success happen? In this session you will learn the basics of localization and translation – so that you can effectively take your training to Tokyo, Tel Aviv or Tegucigalpa.
Frank Felsburg is an account executive with Magnum Group. He works with organizations that want to communicate globally and optimize their international presence. A large percentage of his clients are in the Training & Development sector. Magnum translates and localizes their training content for non-English speaking learners. He’s worked with organizations to help them produce foreign-language versions of online training modules as well as presentations and workbooks for instructor-led training. He attended his first ASTD chapter meeting in December of 2005 and got involved in the Greater Philadelphia chapter as newsletter editor, co-Vice President of Membership, leader of the Publishing Special Interest Group and then as President. Frank has delivered stand-up training in the areas of customer service, sales and communication skills and has also worked for a custom eLearning development company. A graduate of Villanova University, he is the author of numerous articles and a book on listening.
